First Responders

When a disaster strikes a community, the church wants to be ready to respond to the needs of our members and the needs of the community. First Responders are a trained group who can respond very quickly to disaster sites locally and around the country. Training is available throughout the year. These responders basically help with emergency repairs.

Angels on Call

Angels have been described as God’s ministering servants and they’ve been seen at the First UMC. They are a part of a ministry called Angels on Call. If you are interested in ministering to those who are shut-in or have a special need and you are somewhat limited in your time, you can still have an effective ministry here at FUMC.

Often people call in with a special need that only requires a servant heart. There are those around us who need an occasional ride to the doctor, grocery store, etc. Others, after a hospital stay may just need someone to make them a meal or stop by to brighten their day as they regain their strength. Many of these people just need help for a one time special errand and that’s when our angels go into action.

Mary Jackson, Angels on Call Ministry Coordinator is looking for angels and places to minister. Let us know if you’re available to help or if you or a friend has a special need. Remember, A friend is someone who always cares and is a hand that is holding yours. Thank you for lending your caring hand to those who need a helping hand.

FUMC Children’s Home

“Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these
my brethren, you did it to me.” Matthew 25:40

Alex Carmichel, President, states:

“We believe that we can reclaim these youth who are at risk,
as we witness these words of faith.

“Living faith is the art of loving.
Loving hope is the art of caring.
Caring compassion is the art of sharing.
Sharing mission is the art of living.”

The Florida United Methodist children’s Home seeks to challenge the best in the children and families that come to us for assistance and to minister to their needs. With God’s help we can minister to children and families together.

First United Methodist Church of DeLand contributes each month that has a fifth Sunday.

We volunteer our time on Campus Day and other times during the year.

We also collect diapers for the Foster Care Program, the second Sunday of every month.

InterFaith Kitchen

The Interfaith Kitchen is a ministry born out of a vision by the Interfaith Caregivers, a interdenominational organization represented by many churches from the West Volusia area. Many months of prayer, organization, and dedication by this group has resulted in the formation of the Interfaith Kitchen.
The Interfaith Kitchen’s purpose is to provide a nourishing hot meal to the hungry men, women and children of the west Volusia area. It is our desire to begin to build relationships that can lead to other services. We offer the meal in the name of God, who has given this vision to minister to His children through physical care and spiritual renewal.

Who does the Interfaith Kitchen Feed?

The Interfaith Kitchen offers hot meals to those in our area who are hungry. The meal is primarily offered to those persons who may be homeless, or simply unable to provide a hot meal for themselves or their family.

When is the meal offered?

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings 5:45 p.m.-6:45 p.m.

Where?
The basement of the Educational Building at First United Methodist Church of Deland

How can I become Involved?

Primarily, you volunteer through your local church or organization. You may wish to volunteer by contacting Denise Gilman, 386-804-1212. The Interfaith Kitchen representatives can give you directions, and training.

At least one volunteer should arrive by 4:00 pm (during church office hours) on your assigned day of serving. Supper is served between 5:45-6:45 p.m. You should be able to clean up and be ready to leave by 7:30 p.m.

PRAY FOR US!

We are excited about this ministry that God has given us, and we look forward to having you as a part of God’s work. We are grateful for your participation, whether it is as an individual, a volunteer church, or simply by supporting us with your funds.

If you are unable to help as a volunteer or with funds, we covet your prayers - the most important aspect of this ministry. Please remember to pray for us daily. Pray for God’s love to be demonstrated through our love for others, pray that He will bring healing to those who will receive this blessing, and pray for our churches and organizations that God will use them in a might way!

Thank you for your part in His work!
